This supplement has none of the side effects of pharmacy and drugstore iron. And it works well... My hemoglobin was perfect a few weeks ago despite me rarely eating meat and avoiding all sources of iron. A few years ago, I learned of the cause of deaths of my mother, grandmother, grandfather, great grandmother, favorite aunt, male cousins - a condition called hemochromatosis caused by gene commonly found in the French, Irish, European and even African nationalities. One of my aunts discovered it and she is alive as a result. I was tested and am positive for this gene. The gene improves the absorption of iron. Its efficientn iron storage efficiency means eventual death for men in their early 50's from a heart attack, and cirrhosis or liver cancer in women in their early 70's, or in the case of my mother in her mid 60's after chemo. The cure, believe it or not, is blood letting. The gene is a common one, found in 10% of the population, and was a good gene to have in the past when iron sources like meat were not easily available. Today it is deadly unless caught and monitored because people eat more meat. Women die later than men because they lose their stored iron from menstruation and childbirth but once those are in the distant past. I was told not to take iron supplements after testing positive for this gene. But recently i realized i am safe to take iron for a while still and decided to take this iron supplement. I am constantly being surgically operated on and lose a lot of blood each time. I am expecting a hip replacement soon, foot surgery and ankle replacement in the next year and two new elbow replacements for the useless ones i have now the year after. So even though people with this gene should never take iron supplements, if still menstruating or expecting surgeries where there is lot of blood loss like knee replacements or hip ones in the future, iron supplements should be safe. Many doctors believe there should be mandatory testing for this gene because it causes heart attacks in men in their early 50s. And because there can be excess iron overdosing of the brain, I suspect this gene as causing mental illness. I personally suspect iron excess in the brain is causing many behaviour problems in black communities where it kills young black men who drink alcohol in their thirties! Too much iron destroys the liver and causes cirthosis more than alcohol does. But the deadly iron excess is not just inside the heart and liver and brain, but EVERY organ. As a result, I also believe there should be mandatory testing of everyone for this gene. My family was devastated by this gene. All we knew until three years ago that people were changing skin colour before they died despite never having drank. My great grandmother and her mother turned yellow. My mother turned bronze...her skin became the colour of mahogany. I turned grey while I took methorexate for Rheumatoid Arthritis. In summary, if you take iron supplements, you may want to get tested for this gene, and if positive, get tested yearly for excess iron storage. I get this tested yearly so I don't end up having to get blood letting treatments like my aunt, or get cancer or die like my relatives who had no idea they even had a health problem until they died, and died young. I've been only taking the iron complex for 5 days yet not the recommended dosage and feel an instant energy better sleep better mood less stress less hunger and constipated somewhat at the beginning but then eventually you go more regularly...having said that the recommended dosage is 2 capsules but I've been only taking 1 capsule thus far but eventually will increase to 2 capsules ... imagine when I take 2 capsules how much more energetic and better I feel., oh and I noticed my allergies are becoming less bothersome and it controls your blood sugar as well... this will definitely be a staple in my diet forevermore....highly highly recommend this product... love love love love love love can't emphasize how much I am sooooooo addicted to this iron complex formulation the best thus far... I am new to this product line. Since I have been using this product only a month I held off giving 5 stars. My eyes have stopped aching and burning near the end of my day. The occasional clouding I had in my vision has also stopped. I will continue to use this product since I am already seeing these good benefits.
